Margaret Thompson demonstrated through her characterization of Eboli the manner in which Verdi should be sung in this season opening premiere: A dramatic mezzo voice with power and attack. She showed the voice was well balanced and evenly produced in all registers with solid coloratura. This was a performance that displayed a gorgeous array of colorful splendor.

As star of the evening, Margaret Thompson proved herself and excellent singer with sympathetic colors, wonderful breath control, and outstanding articulation with artistic repose and dominance. The aria "O don fatale" showed dramatic expression with lyric sentimentality.
